Tips for Successful Outdoor Adventures By Cam Cook

Everybody loves to go camping. I enjoy camping. If I could go camping in the woods five months out of the year I would. I follow three rules when I go out for a couple of days or for a whole week. Rule number one: Always make sure the land you are using is not on private land or in a national park or in a no camping zone. Always, if you are going to camp on someone’s private land, get permission first. Rule number two: Make a check list to make sure you have all of your equipment. You will need a good tent, a sleeping bag that will keep you warm in any weather, cooking utensils, a pot and a pan, fresh water, warm clothes, a hatchet or an ax, a tinder box to get a fire going, a backpack to hold your equipment it helps if you have to hike to your camping spot. Rule number three: Go out and have some fun and be safe.

To kill a deer you will need various weapons to chose from all depending on what hunting season it is: rifle, musket, or bow. Rifle, there are a few rifles you can use a .306 or a .3030, a .22 for small game like rabbits, squirrels, or chipmunks, .308 is mainly used for big game hunting like moose, elk, bear, mule deer, and big horned sheep. With a high powered scope, this gun can shoot up to 300 yards if sighted correctly. A .306 and .330 are used for deer only. Hunters use these mainly in the East than in the West, because the deer are smaller in the East than in the West. Now that you have chosen a gun you now have to choose a location. This all depends on what you want to kill. Look for deer in a grassy field or the line where the hard wood meets the soft. Bear you can find in the harder woods, because they like to hide and its easier to keep their cubs safe. Moose and elk you will find in the big mountains up North where the temperatures are colder. The Kangamangas are a good hunting spot for moose. Be careful though, a lot of the spots are private or state wildlife conservation areas. After finding your location, you are now ready to have fun and kill things.

Fishing can be a lot of fun, or it can be boring as hell. I enjoy fishing. Ice fishing and deep sea fishing, fishing in the river, or fishing in the lake can be fun, but it helps if you know where the fish are. So, if you go out on the water and it’s a new area, that’s when fishing becomes boring. But, you don’t have to sit on a boat in one spot, waiting for the fish to bite. If you move around a lot you can find the good holes or the bad ones. You will need a fishing pole. Good fishing all depends on what you like to fish and the area you fish in a lot. So that’s why having many poles with different set ups on each for different kinds of fishing is important. For example, a seven-foot pole would need a back caster and a six foot pole a fly wheel. Lures there are all kind of lures out there. You can choose ones that float, sink to the bottom, or only sink to a certain depth, ones that look like fake worms, frogs, flies, squid, and crawfish.

Now that you have read my article about hunting, fishing, and camping I hope that you will be more successful on your outdoor adventure. (Don’t be afraid to grab life by the horns.)
