Commitment by Alex Whalen

“A lobotomy, it doesn’t sound threatening,” I repeated to myself while I lie on the cold metal slab. I know it was unnecessary, but like all patients I lost the already damned battle. Let me explain myself to someone I know is willing to listen. You.

It all started with my sentence to the asylum, the place that would assuage the life of someone like me…a lunatic as they called it. At first like every other truthfully sane person that was sent to decay within the walls of this place, I was told that I was recovering. That I will surely be released soon. LIES! I knew it would never happen. I would never feel the calming rays of the sun reach me. I would never be able to enjoy the umbrage in the meadow behind my house ever again.

Weeks, then months, then years passed until I got the rush of happiness and freedom of the surmise of my sentence of this wretched prison. They said it would ameliorate me. I got to speak with the head of this so called hospital.

“They said you’re doing better,” He paused then it came, “What do you think?”

Nervously the words spilled out of my mouth. “Yes, I agree.”

He then replied with no hesitation to thought, not even the slightest bit of consideration. “Unfortunately your psych evaluation tells a different story.”

“Excuse me?”

“It’s been stated by your doctor that you seem unstable and extremely agitated by even the simplest things.”

I couldn’t believe what I just heard. I’m being forced to stay in this living hell for the rest of my pathetic life.

As I walked out of the room this cold sensation filled my body. Further down the hall I saw him, the man that filled my head with lies. I can’t describe the feeling of rage that overcame me.

“How was the meeting?” He said followed by a grimace more crazed than the mind of anyone admitted to this place.

At this point I realized.

“You did it on purpose.”

“Excuse me?” The words crawling from his lips like demons from hell.

“You did,” I said.

He just laughed.

“You’re mistaken. Have you taken your pills?”

I froze. I couldn’t move. The rage I stopped me in my tracks. So many things were going through my head but nothing made sense. He pulled his quill tip pen from his pocket.

“Here’s another prescription for your medication.” He pulled the paper from the pad and stuck out his hand. I stood there in awe. The one person who knew I was sane and could have helped me get released was keeping me in.

I stood speechless staring at the paper in his hand. My mind went blank. The only thing in my head was revenge. I looked at his chest and there was my instrument of revenge, his pen. I reached my hand out but not far for the prescription. I snatched the pen out of his pocket.

The words fell from his mouth, “Orderly!” One’s attacking me.”

But, before anyone could react I grabbed his lab coat and threw him against the stone cold wall and whispered in his ear. “I along I let you convince me I was the lunatic, but no—you are. I have to help every other sane person here and end your sociopathic reign of this hell!”

A smile came over his face. “But, I didn’t get caught.”

Then I lost all control and thrust the sharp tip of the pen across his neck and let him fall into the lurid scene of his own blood. I stepped away and dropped my instrument of revenge. Not even seconds passed before the head of the hospital ran to the scene, dropped to his knees, and looked up.

“What the hell have you done!”

I did this hell a favor. I felt a sharp pain in my neck. I looked behind me and saw a blurry figure of an orderly hit me. I was injected with a sedative and…I fell.

Ghost Chasers By: Gabriel Ainsworth

Once upon a time, there were 4 Ghost Chasers who lived in New York City. Their names were Spengler Jr, Stantz Jr, Venkman Jr, and Zeddemore Jr. They were the sons of Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman, and Winston Zeddemore who were a group that hunted down ghosts in the mid 80s to early 90s (The Ghostbusters).
The Ghost Chasers were born in 1984 around the time the Ghostbusters were hunting down ghosts. The Ghost Chasers were named after their fathers. Spengler Jr, Stantz Jr, Venkman Jr, and Zeddemore Jr. had dreams of becoming paranormal hunters like their fathers when they were children because they thought it would be cool to hunt down and destroy ghosts or spirits. The 4 children eventually got to fulfill their destinies to become paranormal hunters when they grew up and transcended through college at the New York City Paranormal Institute in 2003. They all graduated in 2007 and formed their own group of paranormal hunters called The Ghost Chasers.
One day in 2009, the Ghost Chasers received a case to investigate paranormal activity at an old asylum from the mid 1800s called The Trans-Alleghany Lunatic Asylum in a small city of Weston, WV. The asylum in the past has kept many prisoners from the Civil War to dangerous felons like Charles Manson. The employees who work at the landmark have asked the Ghost Chasers for their help in investigating and destroying the fractious spirits that infringe within the asylum. There had been rumors that employees and tourists have been inveighed and physically attacked within the building for the past decade. Spengler Jr, Stantz Jr, Venkman Jr, and Zeddemore Jr all got on a plane to travel from New York to Clarksburg, WV to solve the case.
Once the Ghost Chasers arrived at North Central West Virginia Airport in Clarksburg, They took a bus to Weston, WV to the asylum which was a half hour away from the Clarksburg. The Ghost Chasers arrived at Trans-Alleghany Lunatic Asylum late afternoon and met one of the employees who told them all these rumors of attacks that happened for the last decade. They were appalled by this information and commiserated over the ones who were abused by these ghosts. The Ghost Chasers were prepared for the unexpected when they started the investigation and hunting for spirits later that night and got their proton packs ready. The proton packs would shoot out electricity to weaken the ghost and destroy it.
It was about 10:30 PM that night and the asylum was closed for the night as the ghost chasers started their hunt for ghosts. It was very creepy and dark within the building. At 11:00 PM, the ghost chasers were on the 1st floor of the asylum and in the hallway. Spengler Jr. spotted a flash of light looming off in the distance. The other chasers began to cower and charged their proton packs just in case. The flash of light disappeared into thin air after about 5 seconds. The Ghost Chasers were anxious and didn’t what to expect next. They began to hear a voice as they started heading up to the 2nd floor. The voice sounded sounded like an elderly man with a raspy voice and was saying “Get Out”! Spengler Jr, Stantz Jr, Venkman Jr, and Zeddemore Jr were trying to infer why this spirit wanted them out so badly. Zeddemore Jr was communicating to the spirit asking it questions and enjoining it: “Who are you?” “Show yourself!” But there was a dead silence and no one appeared in sight. The Ghost Chasers were set to use their proton packs in case of an upcoming attack. They saw nothing but darkness but all of a sudden Stantz Jr was pinned to a wall and hovering in mid air. The other chasers saw Stantz Jr being choked while pinned to a wall in the air by a spirit who looked white as snow in form. They started firing away their proton packs at the vicious spirit. After a minute of firing, the Spirit was killed and vanished as Stantz Jr fell to the floor catching his breath.
The Ghost Chasers continued their investigation with caution as they headed up to the 3rd floor. This time they heard many different types of voices. There were a few voices that sounded like men saying “Who are you?” Some of the other voices said “Interlopers!” The Ghost Chasers formed a coalition to prepare for the unexpected. All of a sudden the ghost chasers saw about 10 spirits appear in front of them. They started firing away at the ghosts and killed all of them. After the shooting there was a moment of silence. Spengler Jr, Stantz Jr, Venkman Jr, and Zeddemore Jr were lurid, their adrenalines were pumping and their hearts were beating at a fast pace. Out of nowhere a huge spirit appeared in front of them. It looked like the spirit of Charles Manson. The spirit looked creepy from appearance. He looked deformed in a kind of way and talked in a raspy type voice. The spirit was an estimate 7 feet tall and felt cold when you came within two feet in front of it. The spirit had a dirty but furious look on his face. “What have you done to my ghost friends!?” “YOU MURDERED THEM!” Spengler Jr, Stantz Jr, Venkman Jr, and Zeddemore Jr were quivering and wondering what this spirit was going to do to them. The spirit was still belligerent and getting out of control “My friends will be avenged!” The spirit them started an attack on the ghost chasers. The Ghost Chasers tried to destroy the spirit of Charles Manson but the spirit was too fast to catch. He was speedy like a car going 100 mph. Venkman Jr did manage to get a clean shot at him and fired away. The proton charges didn’t affect the spirit or weaken him. The proton packs for all the ghost chasers were almost out of power and didn’t have enough proton charges to do a lot of damage on a ghost. The Ghost Chasers thought that could be their only hope in destroying this spirit. They devised a plan to destroy the spirit once and for all. They ran with their proton packs into an old room on the 3rd floor and shut the door tight so the spirit couldn’t break through. They quickly recharged all the proton packs to full and maximum power as fast as they could. “HURRY!” enjoined Zeddemore Jr. They formed a coalition to fire together to maximum fire power to destroy the ghost. They did a countdown “1,2,3” and immediately let the spirit open the door and the ghost chasers fired away their proton packs at full fire power at once. The recharging of the proton packs paid off, the ghost took heavy damage and was weaken after a few some hits to his head and body. Shortly after, the ghost chasers used up _ of the energy in their proton packs to destroy the spirit. The spirit blew up and vanished into oblivion.
Spengler Jr, Stantz Jr, Venkman Jr, and Zeddemore Jr were assuaged that all the spirits including the spirit of Charles Manson have all been destroyed. It was about 2:30 AM after they finally destroyed the spirit of Charles Manson. The Ghost Chasers fell asleep from lassitude of carrying the heavy proton packs and being up for 16 hours straight in the old room on the 3rd floor. They awoke to find the employees and the director of the Asylum cheering and happy they had ridden the asylum of the ghastly ghosts that had been haunting them.
Later that day, the ghost chasers received thanks from all the residents in Weston and also received a medal for their courage in defeating the spirits and the asylum was spirit free from then on.

McDonald's Globaly By: Roshni Patel

Indian McDonald’s is very different from American McDonald’s. I surmise you do not know the differences. It has many different varieties of food, like sandwiches, pastas, vegetables with rice, sweet tea, and so many different things. It has many vegetarian dishes also, like samosas and Manchurians (little dumplings with vegetables inside). I prefer eating at McDonald’s in India, because there are so many vegetarian items.

Are Dinosaurs Extinct? By: Alex Whalen

Are dinosaurs extinct? New evidence has been brought to our attention that the meteor whipped out the most famous and large dinosaurs like the T-Rex.  But, the meteor never finished them completely.  Research by Jack Horner  has shown that they had the same hollow bones as modern birds and some paleontologists believe that select groups of dinosaurs did have feathers.  That’s right facts have lead us to believe that dinosaurs never went extinct but evolved into modern birds.

2010 Oakley Splices By: Andrew Orfanidis

The Oakley Splice line of goggles are easily the most comfortable and clean goggles I have ever worn. This year I bought a pair of the Lava Sky Splices and I give them 5 out of 5 stars. The vision is so clear and crisp you wouldn’t even know you have goggles on. All the Splices come with Plutonite lenses and Iridium lens coating that protect your eyes from any rays. Splices come in a variety of colors and graphics all of which I find to be great. These goggles range from $120-$190+ mine were $159 but in my mind they are worth every penny.

Rob Brown By: Cees Plomp

Once upon a time, in a town called Weston, there was a quiet little man called Rob Brown. He was an unassuming man who became an accountant, got married young, and had no children. He was a fairly intelligent person, as such things are reckoned, and he never made any serious mistakes with his life-except one. It was not too horrible a mistake for most people, and in many people’s case it would not be a mistake. What he did was to trust his wife.

She was, for six years, trustworthy, but unfortunately never truly happy with the level of comfort he was able to give her on his modest salary. When she met a man she found attractive and wealthy, she started a love affair with him, then managed to convince him it was worth his while to eliminate her husband in order to have her to himself. This new man, who will not be named, was a prestigious doctor from New York. He had some people who owed him favors, and he used them to have Rob Brown pronounced insane and committed to the nearest asylum, which happened to be the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Rob tried to avoid it, but there was nothing he could do once pronounced mad. This was to be the worst and last part of Rob’s life.

In the asylum, he was unable to convince anyone that he was, in fact, sane. Soon, he stopped caring. All that mattered to him was staying away from doctors and orderlies at any time, in order to avoid “treatments”. He found those to be the worst part of living there, and he would often offer almost anything the other patients wanted if they would help him hide from the authorities. One day, this habit became his downfall, as it led to him being marked “antisocial”. While in some places, this would mean that the staff would try to get him to participate more in group activities, this place attempted nothing of the sort-indeed, group activities were seen by most workers as a waste of time. The end result of his antisocial diagnosis was that he was scheduled for the next lobotomy.

Lobotomies were the most feared procedure at the asylum, and with good reason. Although most patients did survive, despite the beliefs of the public, it usually ended up with the victim becoming a vegetable, or simply going into a coma. Rob did not know he was to be lobotomized until the day Walter Freeman arrived. Walter was famous for popularizing the new “ice-pick” method of lobotomies, which involved strapping a patient down, placing an ice-pick under their eyelids, and hammering it up into the front their skull with a mallet. Once it was in the brain, the pick would be swept from side to side, then removed.

Rob did not know any of this. All he knew was that for no reason he could see, doctors caught him in his room, sedated him, and took him strapped to a gurney to one of the operating rooms. Luckily for him, he was sedated enough not to care where he was taken, not to care when he saw a blood-covered man wheeled out on a gurney of his own, and not to care when he heard a voice (That of Walter Freeman, although he didn’t know it), call out “Bring in number 44!”. All he felt was a slight pressure on his eye when the pick was slipped in, then in his forehead when it was hammered into his brain. After that, he never felt-as we know it- again. Once his operation was done, he was wheeled out, and Walter called out “Bring in number 45!”. He lived a few more months, if you want to call it living, then quietly perished from starvation after he began refusing to eat. His wife, upon hearing the news, felt nothing but mild surprise. In fact, the only one to care about his death was his parents, who ended up bringing his body home to be buried, and attempting to have the lobotomies stopped. Sadly, their efforts were not enough to stop the operations, and Rob Brown was, in time, forgotten as anything but another victim of the Trans-Alleghney Lunatic Asylum.

The Titans By: Gabriel Ainsworth

The 2009 Tennessee Titans NFL Team is currently in a world of hurt. They have a 3-6 season record and have the possibility of finishing their season strong with a 7-9 or 8-8 record for the regular season according to the remainder of their schedule. They might win all of their remaining games but it’s a doubt.
The 2009 Tennessee Titans were predicted to win 9 or 10 games and possibly be a playoff team but their season isn’t fairing well for what was expected from them this season. The Titans started the season 0-6 under Kerry Collins as the starting quarterback. Kerry Collins hasn’t helped the Titans win games this season. He has played horribly this season compared to last season when he went 12-3 as the starter after Vince Young injured himself late in the second half in the Titans 2008 season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Collins helped the Titans go to a 13-3 regular season record in 2008 and helped the Titans get the #1 seed and home field advantage in the AFC Playoffs. The Titans eventually were upset by #4 Seeded Baltimore Ravens 13-10 at home. The Titans defense hasn’t played so well this year. Their defense is horrible compared to last season. The Titans defense currently is ranked almost last in NFL in pass defense (31st) as compared to last season when they were ranked 7th.The Titans rush defense hasn’t played well either. Their rush defense is better than their pass defense. The Titans rush defense this season currently ranks 16th as compared to last season when they were ranked 5th. The Titans offense however, seems to have picked up where it left off from last season. The Titans ground game has definitely picked up where it left off. They are currently ranked 2nd behind The New York Jets in rushing offense. Their passing offense has played the same since last year too, having ranked 26th.
After the Titans lost their first six games with Kerry Collins being the starter in the 2009 season, the Titans replaced Kerry Collins with backup quarterback Vince Young as the starter for the remainder of the season. From then on the Titans have won 3 straight games with Vince Young being the starting quarterback to go to 3-6 so far. Vince Young have played equitable but average, he’s had two passer ratings of 90 the pass two games and had one 114.1 in his first start this season when he completed 15-18 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown and no interceptions in a 30-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 1, 2009. His performance has ameliorated since earlier this season. Vince Young played in one game two weeks earlier before his first start on October 11, 2009 against the Indianapolis Colts late in the second half to get some playing time and didn’t play so well. He threw a pick and no touchdowns in 31-9 lost. Vince Young overall in his first 3 starts has an 85.9 passer rating and has thrown for 507 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
The Tennessee Titans have never had a 10-6 regular season record after starting a season 0-6 in team history. The Titans started their 2006 season 0-5 and ameliorated to 8-8 when rookie Vince Young took over as the starting quarterback after the titans started 0-3 under their original starter Kerry Collins. Vince Young went to an 8-5 record as the starter that season and the titans almost made the playoffs but came up short when they had to win their remaining three games of their season. They won the first two but lost their season finale which could have helped the titans make the final seed in the 2006 AFC Playoffs.
The Titans are hoping to transcend on their winning streak and finish their season meritorious. If there’s some miracle, the titans win all their remaining games and possibly make the playoffs but that’s not going to be easy and it’s almost impossible. They’re going to have to work some magic, have a sedulous attitude, and rely on their offense to help win their games especially their running game if they expect to come away with a winning record this late in the season even if it means winning their games by smoke and mirrors.

Thanksgiving Feast By: Ian Saunders

Whether it’s the smell of a fresh apple, pecan, or pumpkin pie, or the smell of turkey, stuffing, and gravy, those unforgettable smells remind you that, it’s Thanksgiving time. From homemade stuffing to cranberry sauce and mash potatoes, when it’s Thanksgiving all of your favorite foods are waiting for you on one table. At my house some of my favorites are the mash potatoes smothered in gravy, the turkey and ham, and the desserts. I usually don’t eat pies but I do eat the ice cream and the cookies. For my sisters the homemade stuffing, the apple pie, and the pecan pie are what they look forward to when they come home for Thanksgiving. From that first bite of well cut tenuous turkey to the last, it keeps me wanting to eat all day. Luckily, leftovers help me. I get to eat as much turkey as I want for about a week after Thanksgiving. And when it’s all gone I’ve gotten my turkey fill for the year. So let the count down begin, and start ripping your bread, because Thanksgiving in next Thursday.
Happy Thanksgiving!

The Unexpected: Ian Saunders

“Congratulations to the class of 2011, you’re finally done!” the headmaster said as we started to cheer and raise our caps in joy and relief. We had done it. We graduated. Only summer left and we start our journey off to college. Me, on the other hand, that was a different story. Having only my mom and my sister, college was just out of the question. Staying home for the sake of my sister was the only option, unless my mother could stop using and drinking. I was going to enjoy my last summer with my friends, live it up, party, hang out, and relax. “John, man, we are all going to my house later, you in?” Mike asked while putting my in a headlock.
“Sure, I just have to let my mom know.”
“Alright man, party of the year!” Always a party to him. Mike was probably the biggest jock/ jerk in the school, but he always could throw a good party. That night I decided to go. Upon my arrival, I realized that this was the true start to my summer. I wasn’t going to sit around and do nothing. This was my last summer as a kid. I needed to enjoy it.
I was finally at Mike’s house. The place was packed with people, and alcohol to go around. As I was trying to enter his house, I saw our usual gang waving me down. “John! Over here” Marry yelled. I slithered through the large crowed into the kitchen. “Finally you’re here, we are talking about a trip, you in?” Brian asked.
“What kind of trip” I replied.
“A road trip to West Virginia to this old asylum.” Jessica said. “
I’m in! Anything that will get me out of here” I said as I pounded down my drink. I almost feel as if I was just not thinking because of how mad I was at myself for basically taking care of my family while my mother sat back and drank. But by this point I was just happy to be out of my house. “When are we going?” I asked starting on my 3rd drink. “Well if all goes as planned in 2 days, I got to get my dads car first.” Mike said.
“We can take my car.” I said.
“Then let’s leave tomorrow, I don’t want to be here any longer.” Jessica said, slurring her speech for she had been there since after graduation.
“Sounds good to me!” I yelled. From there on out it was a blur.

When the sun was rising I found myself on the floor of a bathroom that was not mine, and a slate smell to the air. My head was pounding and I was vulnerable to sound. I was experiencing my first hangover. I got up, fixed my clothes, and slowly worked my way downstairs. Upon my arrival to the base of the stairs Jessica, Mary, Brian, and Mike greeted me. They were all showered and ready to go. For what? I asked myself. “Dude, you’re not ready yet? Come on take a shower let’s go!” Mike said while shoving me back up the stairs. It took me an hour to get ready for I could barely move my body. Now I was ready. I got all my things went down stairs, took a cup of coffee to go, and we were off to West Virginia. “How long of a ride is this?” Mary asked.
“I don’t know a day, a week.” Mike said.
“You’re not funny!” Mary yelled. It would take up 3 hours to get to West Virginia and then another hour to get to Weston. This day would be long and tiring. I decided to sleep my headache off.

“John…we are here wake up!” Jessica said as everyone was running towards the gates to the asylum.
“It’s all locked” Brian exclaimed. “Are you kidding me? We drove all this way for nothing? This is great just great!” Mary nagged.
“Calm down Mary, we will find away in.” and that we did. We walked around to the side and there was an opening in the fence. We all climbed through and raced to the doors.
“I’m not to sure about this guy’s.” Mary said with a frightened voice.
“Don’t be such a baby.” Mike said. I too wasn’t so sure about this anymore. I mean I never told my mom where I was. As much as I hated her at this moment I just couldn’t help but feel bad for making her wonder. We kept on walking. When we reached the doors, we opened them. They made a loud and high-pitched screech that was so unpleasant to the ear. We all cringed in horror. “Oh my gosh! Haven’t they ever heard of WD-40?” We entered. As soon as we enter there was a cold vibe, as if the summer turned into winter in a split second. “SLAM!” we all looked behind us to see the doors had closed on their own. “Ok now I’m really scared.” Mary said.
“It’s fine, you’ll be fine.” Brian insisted. We all walked passed the main office and into the dark. Now it was getting dark.

“Guy’s, I think we should just go.” Whimpered Jessica. Everyone just ignored her. It was pitch black; we had two flashlights and no clue what time it was. We were entering on the second floor. Tiles had fallen from the ceiling, there was off colored paints on the walls, creepy vibes, and paranormal activities. The windows at the ends of hallways had cages, the tiles on the wall had slime and mold, and the stains that appeared to look like blood, were all signs of horror. As we enter on to the next hallway we saw a room full of stretchers. “ Wow look at these!” Mikes said.
“Don’t Mike, stop don’t touch them.” Mary pleaded. “Mike…what’s wrong with him!” Mike appeared to be floating. He was up in the air. Being thrown onto the wall. “Oh my gosh what’s wrong with him. Someone help him.” Jessica screamed. I was in such lurid shocked I couldn’t do anything but stare as his body was shaken and he tried to cling back to life. He fell. “John help me elevate his head.” Brian asked. Brian and I ran over.
“We need to get out of here now!” Mary yelled while crying. She was right this was enough we had to leave. “Put him on a stretcher and let’s get out of here now. No excuses lets go!” I yelled. We fixed him up on the stretcher. We started down the hallway slowly. “ That’s it keep is steady. Don’t bump it to much.” I said in a low scared voice. “ Wait…do you hear that?” We all stopped to try to elicit the sound. It sounded like footsteps behind us were coming up on us fast. “ Go..Go!! GO!!” I yelled. We moved as fast as we could into the next hallway. We stopped “Okay get him down the stairs.” We slowly, carried the stretcher out and into the black sky. “ Wait this isn’t the front?” We landed ourselves in the courtyard. We were not out yet.

“ Okay, here’s the plan. John and I are going to go find the closest way out of here. We will come back and get out. Stay here. Don’t move him, and if he becomes conscious, let him rest. We will find a doctor when we get out.” Brian and myself ran back into the asylum. We were on the second floor again. We looked from hallway to hallway. “ John. I think I found a way out.” I ran over I could see the trees that were in from of the asylum before. We raced down to see if it was a way out. It was.
“I’ll sit here, you go back and get them.” Brian whispered. As scared as I was, I knew I had to go back and get them.
“Okay I’ll go.” I said I disappeared off into the darkness. A slowly walked up the stairs and peeked my head out into the hallway. There was no one. I slowly worked my way out into the hallway. The sound of laughter came from all around me. It stopped. It got harder and harder to breathe. I was panting like a dog. I fell to the grounded. Choking. This was it I thought. I was going to leave unhappy with my life, mad at my mother, and leave my sister to take care of her. I became light headed. Then, it stopped. It extricated me. I started gulping in air. I got up and started walking holding myself up by using my hands on the wall. I could here more footsteps. I ran faster and faster down the hallways. I came to the door and busted it opens. “ John!” I ran over to Mary and Jessica. “How is he?” I asked.
“He’s the same. I'm really worried.” Jessica said quivering.
“Don’t worry. We are going to get out of here and get him to a hospital.” I said. We lifted him to the stretcher and started back to where Brian was waiting. We walked through the hallways back down the stairs to the 1st floor and into the main lobby. We ran through the main doors and met up with Brian. We gather out on the grass and sighed in relief. It was over. We were out.

We drove to the nearest hospital and had Mike looked at. The doctors said there was nothing wrong and that he was in shock. We couldn’t see him. For when he did wake up he was having fits and screaming. All of us waited in the lobby commiserating. We called our parents and told them what had happened. About and 4 hours later they arrived to take us home. My mom drove me home sober, for once. It was a silent car ride home, and the longest. When we got home she said, “Well I hope you’re happy. You scared me. You ruined your friends life and now he’s in the hospital.” I didn’t reply. I just walked up to my room slammed the door, and fell asleep.

The next morning I woke up and walked down stairs. My mom said nothing. “ I'm going to visit Mike. Ill be back in a couple of hours.” I said. There was no response so I walked out. When I got to his house I sat in the car. I thought about what was going to happen. I couldn’t think straight. I finished my coffee and started walking to his door. From the first look Mike’s parents gave me, I knew there was something wrong. This summer would be the hardest to live through out my life.

Time to fly: The Atlanta Hawks this year are a young team having a 10-2 record so far maybe not the best team in numbers but if you saw them play recently they would surprise you. Having Josh smith and Joe Johnson on you team is a huge advantage. Johnson has a 30 point night and a victory over the Heat.

 Lebron as a football player?
Lebron in high school excelled in football as well as basketball. He has been quoted as saying he would like to play football, but the only thing is that he is the biggest star in the NBA at this point. So Lebron should stick to his day job and that’s playing ball for the Caves.

Scary Story: By Dylan Stapelfeld

Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

In West Virginia there is one of the largest buildings made of hand cut stones and it just happens to be a hospital for the lunatics. The hospital house patients for the Civil War as well as the insane. The building was extremely large and dusty; the main purpose of this asylum was to assuage the insane. Some people go in there and try eliciting the truth from this haunted place. As you enter this place you can feel a weird aura in the air, and maybe see some tenuous shadows. Some inveigh that this place isn’t haunted but that’s for you to find out.

Story By: Musawar Ahmed

When I was 15 in Lahore I went hunting with my cousins in my uncle’s hometown. We spent 7 nights in the trees hunting wild dogs, because they killed a lot of people in there and then something weird happened. We saw some ghost there. They were like 4 or 5 and we thought they might need help. So we went to the side where they were headed but we couldn’t see them anymore. The next night they came back and I think they were trying to scare us. One of my cousin tried to talk with them but they didn't listen to us and they started throwing our stuff everywhere and we got scared and we ran. We went to the village and we told them that we had just seen ghosts. They told us all story that they could do things like humans, and that they had once burned down a house. Coincidentally, the next day we all got sick. Maybe it was fear, but maybe the ghosts made us ill.

My name is Spencer Perkins my story on this world is nothing that concerns you. Though I do have a job to do now and it is to figure out what is going on in this messed up world. So I was sent to the Trans Alleghany Lunatic Asylum. For what, apparently some kids use it as a place to go drink and party. For what though to have a good time. What a bunch of fools. Now I have to take time to figure out what happened to these kids.
So I’m at the Asylum and it is big dark and looks rely bad ass. So I walk in the doors and all I can see is a dark shadow and I walk up to it saying the good old saying I’m a police and I am here to find Stephanie Alfred. When I get up to the figure it slowly walks farther into the shadows. I yell stop and it continues and fades away. Not thinking what he was doing I walk over and opened a door on the right where I saw all of the dead teens except Stephanie. I walk over to them all and checked all there identification it was positive for all the names I had on my list. I radio HQ and told them that I had found all the bodies except for Alfred and than they told me that it was her who sent out a radio signal from the building. So I know now that she might be alive or she might not. I walk further into the asylum and I walk into the civil war section where I walk into room 7 knowing that, that room looked like I had all ready been in it but I had not. So I find objective Alfred in the room and I go up to her and tell her every thing well be ok. She looks at me and takes off my mask and goes to kiss me when she sees my head was never there and I was one of the dark shadow figures. I disappear into the dark corner of the room and left project Alfred to fend for her self.

World News By: Brooke Camp

In Minnesota a tour bus rolled off the interstate into a ditch Wednesday killing two people and 21 were injured severely. The bus was carrying 23 people and many of them were older in age. The roads were dry and clear at the time of the accident so whether conditions were not the cause. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Many of the victims were taken to the hospital to assuage their pain and looses from the accident.
In Parsippany New Jersey workers from the trash company sorted through 10 tons of trash to find a wedding ring accidentally thrown away by a local couple. The husband inadvertently threw the cup away before leaving to work not remembering the ring had been placed into the cup. It’s amazing how the ring was found under that many tons of trash. This couple is very thankful and believes it was a “miracle” that the ring was found.

Scary Story By: Ashley Oronte

You used to hear screaming and yelling but wouldn’t do anything. Treatments for some patients were unheard of now but know it’s haunted by all the patients but one who got killed by two patients. He never spoke everyone thought he was crazy and his two roommates. The roommates used to simulate him but didn’t really like him. The nurse assuaged him many times to talk but he didn’t. When the nurses left the room at night the two patients got up and started their plan. They infringed the man by putting his head on the floor and bed legs on his head and started jumping now one knew because he never spoke or screamed and when the nurse went into the room the patient was murder.

Snowmobiles By: Mike Willis

Snowmobiles

There are many different manufactures of snowmobiles such as skidoo, Artic cat, Polaris, and Yamaha. They all have there different personality and traits some are built for speed and some for built for comfort. It all depends what you prefer to ride you can go fast or enjoy the ride.
The Yamaha line up is very powerful and you have many selections. I think that the best sled that they provide is the Yamaha Apex GT it has an amazing four cylinder liquid cooled 998cc engine. There is a independent wish bone front suspension and signal shock rear end.
Polaris has a great 2010 line up and there is a lot of promise for them. The most interesting sled is the 2010 Polaris rush it is the most technology advanced sled on today’s market it has a 600cc engine. The suspension is one of a kind the front suspension is adjustable and in the rear it is a pro ride suspension kind of like a dirt bike.
The 2010 skidoo line up is the best we have seen in years. One of the sleds the produce is the renegade backcountry x it has a 800cc engine. The suspension is a double a-arm front and in the rear it is sc-5 inch shock travel.

Old vs. New By: Chris Whitcomb

Over the years the snowmobiles have advanced a lot, from the suspension all the way to the engines, the old vintage sleds were hard to handle, hard to ride and hard to keep running, the new sleds are like driving a car, all you do is sit and ride. The uptake on them is 3 times easier than the older sleds and an all around better ride on and off the trails.

Dragon Age: Origins - A Review By Cees Plomp

Dragon Age: Origins - A Review

Dragon Age: Origins is the new RPG from Bioware, a company known for RPGs - and it has delivered once again. Dragon Age is a well-crafted, long-lasting game that can easily take up to 40 hours to complete- or more, if you like side-quests.

One of the biggest strengths of Dragon Age is the party system, in which talking to party members, saying things they like to hear, or giving them gifts, will make them like you more, which can unlock special bonuses such as permanent boosts to your current abilities or completely new ones.

Another good thing about it is that choices you make may end up having no impact until much later in the story, which prevents people from, should they make a choice they don’t like, simply reloading from before that choice was made.

Of course, it does have some weaknesses, such as the ridiculous difficulty which permeates even small fights-you will find yourself dying quite often in the beginning portions of the game, as well as the tenuously built and unwieldy crafting systems, which do not feel completely thought out.

Still, Dragon Age is a fun if occasionally lurid game. It has an impressive story and excellent graphics and voicework, which come together to elicit some very real feelings in most players. Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys RPGs-although the length and difficulty might scare some away, it’s still a very fun game.

Health Care By Ashley Oronte

The Health Care Bill was sent and passed. It means that everyone needs to get health care. However, not everybody can afford it. Some people abominate the health care bill because it costs too much money. It covers so many large health care bills it is unwieldy.

Some feel that they need better health care because their job doesn’t have or good health care coverage if they have an injury or an illness.

Lunatic Asylum By Alek Damiani

Scary Story

A boy named Christopher and his friend Michael who lived in a house next to Ms. Alfred’s father’s house decided it would be cool to sneak in to the lunatic asylum down the road. They thought together of a way they would be able to sneak in there and not get caught, and get a way out. So the next night the two left their homes at 2:30 A.M. and went on towards the asylum. They entered through a boarded up window, after they removed the board, they did not want to vandalize the place.

After they got in they got out their flashlights, they both were very excited. They started walking around and looking for ghosts and stuff. Not long after they entered they did start hearing noises, Michael began to get scared. As they went further in to the asylum Michael saw what he thought was a person, but was actually not, there wasn’t even anything there. Next he felt something scratching his back. He began to beg Chris to leave. He explained how he had just soiled himself and needed to go back. Chris told him to go alone. Michael began crying and ran off.

Shortly after Michael left Chris heard screams from the other end of the hall. Chris sprinted down and pointed his flashlight on Michael. Michael was dead. The ghost of Sir David Wallace murdered him. He was a patient in the asylum, because people thought he was crazy for slapping students. He died as a patient the year the place closed down. Chris was now scared out of his mind he sprinted back to the boarded up window he came in through only to find he could not find his way back to it. He heard some noises behind him and ran further down the hall and went up some stairs desperate to find a way out.

When Chris got up the stairs he saw a window that was not barred up and decided he did not care about vandalizing the place. He ran and jumped out a window on the third story of the building. Chris suffered to broken legs. Cops arrived 15 minutes later because some one complained about the breaking glass. Chris was arrested on the spot for breaking in, and for the murder of his best friend Mikey.  He is now haunted by the ghost of Sir David Wallace for the rest of his life.

Rihanna and Chris Brown, Weighing In By Justin King-Childs

I think that Rihanna should not have contact with Chris Brown because, his violence in the past is an indication of what he's capable of doing and if she has contact with him, he could do it again.

Chris got what he deserved because you should never resort to violence, particularly against women. He shouldn't be allowed to perform for a year, because it seems he isn't learning anything from what occured.

Friday the 13th Remake By Brandon Kilton

This remake I liked better than the original film because Jason actually gets the hockey mask in this movie. Because of technology, he go the mask quicker. Jason didn't get his mask until the 3rd film. I think this film was more frightening than the older films and to me it was more explosive, and the images were more powerful.

Man Fatally Stabbed in Brighton By Kenzie Ramos

According to the Boston Globe on November 8th early in the morning a man was stabbed and killed in front of a convenience store near a strip of bars in Brighton while a lot of people were around the area.

A police officer patrolling near Brighton and Harvard avenues, a hot spot with college students on weekends, found the unidentified victim at about 2:16 am in front of Tedeschi at 157 Brighton Ave.

The officer called for help and began CPR before emergency crews took the man to Beth Israel Hospital, where he passed away.

Boston police are investigating the death and ask anyone with information to contact the homicide unit. No arrests have been made.

This death marks this year's 43rd homicide in Boston compared to 53 at this time last year. In the entire state of New Hampshire last year there were only a total of 50 murders.

Pats Prediction Round Two By Joe Phelps

The Patriots play the Colts on Sunday November 15, 2009. This match up is going to be a very close one, because they're two very good teams and they've had close games in the past. The Colts are currently undefeated with an 8-0 record. The Pats are 6-2, but they've played more challenging teams so far this season.

Manning's passing yardage is alright and total yards for the season are slightly higher than Brady's but Brady is more consistent.

I predict it's going to be a close game that will be tied at half-time and ends with the Pats on top 16-12.

2010 Nitro Line By Andrew Orfanidis

The line of 2010 park and urban boards by Nitro are all about design. A lot of new technologies appeared in this line. Things like Gull Wing Camber on the Sub Pop's and new ballistic impact panel on the 2010 Rook. Each board is more personalized making it easier to choose the right feel and ride you're looking for.

I myself bought a Nitro Haze and love it. It's half the price as brands like Burton with, in my opinion, twice the craftmanship. The list of 2010 Nitro Park/Urban boards include the Rook, TI, Ripper, Sub Zero, Swindle, and Haze. All Nitro boards are manufactured in Austria which is one of the most efficient manufacturing plants around. Other companies like Technie mass produce snowbarods in China, I learned that the hard way after breaking a Technine MFM board in less than a month.

Kicking off the Season at Killington By Andrew Orfanidis

November 7th was the Back to Shred rail Jam starting off the winter sports season in Killington, VT. The first 60 skiers and snowboarders to register got a spot in the competition. Sadly, it filled up before I was able to enter. There were three groups, 16 and under, women's and men's. The registration fee was five dollars and all competitors were invited to a BBQ. All of the winners got invited to the K-Town Showdown event number one. Winners for skiing are: 16 and under, Cooper Babbitt, Julia Marino for women's and Eliot DeLeo for men's. Winners for snowboarding are Shaw McCabe for under 16, Jordan Parks for women's, and Shawn Murphy for men's.

In legislation that was passed in 1938, November 11 was, "dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day.' As such, this new legal holiday honored World War 1 veterans.

Tips for Successful Outdoor Adventures By Cam Cook

Everybody loves to go camping. I enjoy camping. If I could go camping in the woods five months out of the year I would. I follow three rules when I go out for a couple of days or for a whole week. Rule number one: Always make sure the land you are using is not on private land or in a national park or in a no camping zone. Always, if you are going to camp on someone’s private land, get permission first. Rule number two: Make a check list to make sure you have all of your equipment. You will need a good tent, a sleeping bag that will keep you warm in any weather, cooking utensils, a pot and a pan, fresh water, warm clothes, a hatchet or an ax, a tinder box to get a fire going, a backpack to hold your equipment it helps if you have to hike to your camping spot. Rule number three: Go out and have some fun and be safe.

To kill a deer you will need various weapons to chose from all depending on what hunting season it is: rifle, musket, or bow. Rifle, there are a few rifles you can use a .306 or a .3030, a .22 for small game like rabbits, squirrels, or chipmunks, .308 is mainly used for big game hunting like moose, elk, bear, mule deer, and big horned sheep. With a high powered scope, this gun can shoot up to 300 yards if sighted correctly. A .306 and .330 are used for deer only. Hunters use these mainly in the East than in the West, because the deer are smaller in the East than in the West. Now that you have chosen a gun you now have to choose a location. This all depends on what you want to kill. Look for deer in a grassy field or the line where the hard wood meets the soft. Bear you can find in the harder woods, because they like to hide and its easier to keep their cubs safe. Moose and elk you will find in the big mountains up North where the temperatures are colder. The Kangamangas are a good hunting spot for moose. Be careful though, a lot of the spots are private or state wildlife conservation areas. After finding your location, you are now ready to have fun and kill things.

Fishing can be a lot of fun, or it can be boring as hell. I enjoy fishing. Ice fishing and deep sea fishing, fishing in the river, or fishing in the lake can be fun, but it helps if you know where the fish are. So, if you go out on the water and it’s a new area, that’s when fishing becomes boring. But, you don’t have to sit on a boat in one spot, waiting for the fish to bite. If you move around a lot you can find the good holes or the bad ones. You will need a fishing pole. Good fishing all depends on what you like to fish and the area you fish in a lot. So that’s why having many poles with different set ups on each for different kinds of fishing is important. For example, a seven-foot pole would need a back caster and a six foot pole a fly wheel. Lures there are all kind of lures out there. You can choose ones that float, sink to the bottom, or only sink to a certain depth, ones that look like fake worms, frogs, flies, squid, and crawfish.

Now that you have read my article about hunting, fishing, and camping I hope that you will be more successful on your outdoor adventure. (Don’t be afraid to grab life by the horns.)

Steven Tyler Leaving Aerosmith? By Nick Wadleigh

Apparently that might be so, Joe Perry the band's lead guitarist says the future of the band is now uncertain. Perry also said that, “Steven wants to take a few years off to do whatever and the rest of the band wants to keep working.” What this means is, that Steven might very well be replaced and then him getting his place back in Aerosmith might not happen. Perry also said, “The bands a well oiled machine and we’re going to work one way or another and I don’t know what form that’s going to take.” And from what people have been saying, Tyler might be thinking about doing a solo career.

Joe Perry said that, “Aerosmith is not splitting up, but looking for a new singer.” And then Tyler said that, “I am not leaving Aerosmith.” Then Tyler and Perry performed Walk this way. Perry also stated that Tyler has been distant lately and hasn’t been in tune with the bands goals. Tyler’s publicist said he was not available for interview.

New and Improved: 4 Aces By Ian Saunders

Travel back in time for a great diner meal at the newly owned and refurbished 4 aces diner on Bridge Street, West Lebanon New Hampshire. Now cleaned and spruced up, the 4 aces diner has brought back the old time feeling of being in a diner in the 50s. From the colors to the friendly new staff, the 4 aces diner is back in business and making great progress.

From eggs benedict to monster sized pancakes and waffles, if you like breakfast or lunch, this is the place to be. This historic restaurant used to be just a car placed above just above where it stands now. Due to so many people enjoying it, it was moved down (where it is presently) and made bigger, with an additional back wing. About 2 years ago the diner was shut down due to lack of customer and sanitation. Now with everything cleaned and new appliances its back in business. The new owners Molly Dennis, and her father David Dennis, have been very pleased with the come back. On an average Saturday they have reached over 200 customers, and on Sunday just a little more.
With brand new appliances and kitchen products, the food is better then ever. If you like eggs the eggs benedict is a must try. If your more into pancakes and bacon try the two large pancakes, blueberries and chocolate chips may be added, and sides of you’re choosing. Not really a breakfast person? Try their lunch menu, with burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and classics like grilled cheese. And after your meal, homemade dessert is a must with varying products each week. They have everything you could imagine packed into one small diner, so come on down and try what the Upper Valley is raving about today!

School Violence By Roshni Patel

The vast majority of schools in the United States are safe places, and in recent years they have become even safer. Safe schools are essential to young people's ability to learn and develop healthy relationships. The overall rates of violence in schools have fallen, and students feel safer in schools today than they have for several years. In fact, students are much less likely to come to harm at school than away from school. However, some schools do have serious crime and violence problems, and many students, teachers, and parents continue to have grave concerns about safety in schools. As teachers, parents and students prepare and begin this new school year, hopefully fears of school violence such as the Columbine shootings will not be their major concern. What is sad is that school violence needs to be a concern at all. The fact is violence of one sort or another is part of many schools today. Fortunately, this usually involves a small group of people fighting amongst themselves.

The Year By Spencer Perkins

Sequels are dominating in almost all categories, from movies such as the Twilight Saga New Moon and the return of another NBA championship for the Boston Celtics.

But most of all we have the video game Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. MW2 is a direct sequel to MW but is the 6th installment of the Call of duty Series. On the midnight release on November 10, 2009 thousands of people from all over the world attended. There are also many other games coming out this year that are sequels such as. Assassins Creed 2, Dirt 2, Just Cause 2, Uncharted 2 and Bioshock 2. There are many more games that are coming out this year and next that are all highly anticipated.

Can Video Games Help Children? By P Scrisen

I would like to make a few points against the article “Are Video Games Ruining Our Youth?”, which was placed on this site last week. I disagree strongly with this article on effectively every point they put forth, and I will attempt to show why in an article of my own.

In the article I write about, the author seems to think that even touching a video game will make your child a lazy, chair-bound loser. This is patently untrue. Also, the author says that anyone who grows up playing video games will become a “introverted” and “lonely” person, or if not, will have deep emotional problems from “sitting around shooting imaginary people all day.” Not only can most video games hardly be classified as “sitting around shooting imaginary people”, but playing them will certainly not turn you into some sort of introverted psychopath.

Also, the writer seems to believe that playing games will make you unable to so much as talk to other people. Not only do many gamers have healthy social lives, they can also make new friends playing games, especially if it is a MMO such as World of Warcraft, one of the games the author seems to take special issue with.

In addition, he writes that playing games will destroy your child’s future, ruin their grades, and make them into a minimum-wage worker for life. Not only do many gamers hold high-paying jobs, gaming can actually help build some of the skills needed to succeed at difficult careers, or help you improve your memory in old age.

Lastly, he believes that if a child is caught playing a game, parents should quickly throw the games out, lecture their child, and never allow a game in the house again. This is foolish and unhelpful, even for parents that actually dislike game-playing, as it will only make the child want to play games more. Of course, just letting your kids play, and hopefully learn some skills they can use in the future, is best. After all, they will have fun.

Video Games from a Different Angle By Danny Lendaro

Today’s average male teenager plays an average of 23 hours of video games a week. There have been concerns for their habits. Kids barely go outside to play instead the stay inside and look at their television for 5 hours a day. It is starting to become a major problem and there have been more issues because of video games. Kids are staying inside and eating unhealthier when they should be outside exercising.

There are also cases were video games are becoming addicting. There are kids who will not do anything but play video games all day. I know some people that live on welfare and all they do is play video games. There have been groups for video game addicts and is becoming more of an issue. I think that there should be more of a limit of how much video game’s  control our lives.

Hunting: Rifle vs. Muzzleloader By Mike Willis

There are two different parts of a deer hunting season; there is muzzleloader (black powder) or you have rifle season. Some people like muzzleloaders and some like rifles and for the most part people determine which to use based on personal preference. Muzzleloaders have great power but, don’t shoot as far. A rifle shoots further and travels at more feet per second and also has great hitting power.

A muzzleloader is old school in a way, it is loaded through the top of the barrel (the muzzle) and has a bigger bullet and black powder is used as well. A rifle is loaded through the barrel as well but, is load in the chamber located above the trigger and has smaller bullets.

If I had a choice of using a muzzleloader or a rifle I would choose a rifle 100 percent of the time because my 30-06 has amazing hitting power and if you put a good shot placement then it will drop in its tracks.

Lebanon Hit by Flu By Ashley Oronte

Last week at Lebanon High School there was an average of 105 students out last week with the symptoms of the flu.

They were talking about closing down the Jr. High because so many students were out but didn’t. I was talking to a parent whose children attend Jr. High and Semi hill and she was worried about her child getting sick and told us that 32 children were out for Semi Hill and 75 were out for the Jr. High.

A lot of students have been getting sick. Here are some hints to not get sick wash your hands after sneezing coughing. Use hand sanitizer after touching things like door knobs and keyboards in public places.

Ground Blind vs. Tree Stand By Chris Whitcomb

I prefer a tree stand anytime over a blind. I like to be high off the ground and be able to see long range and all around me. It also helps get the scent up and of the ground so that I cant be detected by deer or other animals.

Ground blinds are good because if you have a young and inexperienced hunter that has trouble sitting still and being quit for long periods of time then a ground blind is best, it provides scent cover as well as movement cover,

On a personal level I prefer a tree stand over a ground blind because I like to be invisible, and undetected in the woods when in hunting. Tree stands can come in different styles such as, a ladder stand, a permanent stand, and a climber stand. Ground blinds come in different sizes and shapes, and even homemade ones.

Deer Season By Mike Willis

In 2008 the deer hunting season there were less deer harvested in 2008(10,945) then from 2000-2007. The deer harvested in the last couple years have gone up and down the highest was saw in 2008(13,559). The hope among hunters has been that the deep harvest pick back up.

Some of the reason why the number of deer has gone down is not because of winter kill or killed by another animal. It is simply because the amount of acorns has picked up so the deer are not traveling as much to go get apples and other feed. This makes it hard on the people that just go and sit in the easy to get spots because the deer are not traveling but, for the people that go deeper into he woods and that are experienced enough to locate the deer in deep woods and find where they are bedding down and feeding.

If you can locate the deer then you will have a promising deer hunt and possible the chance at that trophy whitetail buck that you dream about.

Shoes and Purses By Brooke Camp

Shoes are the world’s most popular accessories to women. The top ten shoes are Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Hermes, Chanel, Ferragamo, Versaco, Louis Vuittion, Ermenegildo Zenga, and Prada. Designer shoes can range from 200 dollars to 1,000 dollars and more. Fake designer shoes can look sleazy and plastic which aren’t very attractive to buyers. Also shoes need to be well built so that water doesn’t permeate through the shoes and get your feet wet. Designer’s shoes are great for everyday wear especially in different weather conditions. I recommend the top ten designers shoes listed for people who love shoes and enjoy reliable shoes

Purses are every girl’s most valuable accessory. Top Ten designer purses are Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Belen Echandia, Gucci, Chloe, Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Coach, Juicy Couture, Christian Dior. These purses can range up to 300 dollars per purse. These designer bags are well structured and have life time warranties on them just incase they break. These purses are the ones to have.

Pats Predictions By Joe Phelps

The next Patriot’s game is Sunday the 8th at 1:00 at Gillette Stadium. They’re matched up against the Miami Dolphins who are headed to the cold north, and I predict a big defeat by the Patriots.

The Pats are on a roll. They just beat the Titans 59-0 and broke a lot of records including the most touchdowns ever scored in a game. The Dolphins don’t really have any standout players that compare to our superstars like Brady and Moss.

Brady is definitely going to continue his streak on Sunday and we can also expect great things from Maroney who is a great running back and has also had a stellar season.

My prediction is 35-15 Pats.

The Saints March On By Lucas Harriman

The Saints remain undefeated at 7-0. With their next three games: Home against the Panthers, away against the Rams, and away against the Bucks, looks like they might just stay untouched. Drew Brees (QB) has thrown 230 passes and completed 157 for 2006 yds! Along with 16 TDs and that’s only in 7 games! It’s a good possibility that the Saints could go 15-1. That one loss would be against the Patriots who seem to be the only difficult team left on their schedule.

Sports Update By Dylan Stapelfeld

Celtics 6-0! The Boston Celtics are on a roll starting the season off with a 6-0 start, the second time in three years. The team has some new players that have made a huge impact, mainly Rasheed Wallace who hasn’t really missed from down town. Now that Kevin Garnett is 100% and healthy the Celtics should have a great season.

Yankees are in 27th heaven- final score was Yankees 7 and the Phillies 3. Andy Pettitte pitching 5.2 innings and doin work. The only home run was by Hideki Matsui off Phillies pitcher Pedro Martinez

2009 Tennessee Volunteers Football Team By Gabriel Ainsworth

The 2009 Tennessee Volunteers football team currently have a 4-4 season record and have the potential of going 7-5 or 8-4 seasonal record and with a conference record of 4-4 or 5-3 for the 2009 season. They still have to play their last 4 games (Memphis, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky) and are predicted to win 3 of them. The Volunteers haven’t had a 7-5 season record since 1986 and haven’t been 8-4 since 2002. The Volunteers may lose to Ole Miss because their offense and defense have played decent this year although Ole Miss has struggled during the last half of their season.

Ole Miss started out as the 8th seeded team in the top 25 rankings but later went on to become an unranked opponent after losing 2 of their last 4 games. Tennessee’s defense will be a key in their victory over Ole Miss as well as their offense. Tennessee’s defense has played very well this year but their passing offense has struggled at the beginning of their first 5 games. Their quarterback has struggled in the first 5 games but Lane Kiffin (head coach) kept his quarterback and his players confident and they were sedulous and resilient in winning 2 of their last 3 games including an upset of rival #22 South Carolina 31-13 on Oct 31, 2009. If Tennessee’s offense plays with a sedulous attitude and their defense plays as well as they have been doing this year then Tennessee should beat Ole Miss.

Tennessee shouldn’t have a problem beating Memphis. Tennessee last beat them at Memphis in 2007 41-7 and out gained them in offensive yards in that game. Tennessee hasn’t lost to Memphis since 1996. Tennessee, however, when they play rival Vanderbilt are going to have to play a great football game if they expect to beat Vanderbilt who almost could have upset #11 Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt traded touchdowns in the first half of that game and went into halftime tied at 28. Georgia Tech put the game away in the second half outscoring Vanderbilt 28-3 and won 56-31. If Tennessee plays good defense they could keep Vanderbilt from scoring points. Tennessee has beaten Vanderbilt the past 26 seasons and hasn’t lost to Vanderbilt since 1982. Tennessee will also have to play decent when they play rival Kentucky. Tennessee beat Kentucky last year at Neyland Stadium 28-10 and is playing them at Neyland Stadium again this season. Tennessee hasn’t lost a game to Kentucky since 1984. Tennessee has beaten Kentucky the past 23 seasons and is trying to extend that streak.

If Tennessee has a 7-5 or 8-4 season record, then Tennessee could appear in any bowl game such as the Outback Bowl. Tennessee last appeared in the Outback Bowl back in 2007 and beat Wisconsin 21-17. Tennessee could play any opponent but that ought to depend on their season record and conference record.

Similarities and Differences between India and US Schools By Roshni Patel

There are some similar activities at both Indian and U.S high schools. For example schools in both countries have school newspaper, and school dances. Also both countries have fieldhocky teams.

On the other hand U.S Schools are very different from Indian Schools. For one thing they offer many more activities than Indian Schools. In the U.S there are many more sports teams, such as basketball, football, baseball, skiing, swimming, and soccer. In India, however, we play Cricket and volleyball. In India teachers have extra classes after School, for students that need more help. In the U.S If you need help, you just go ask the teachers a quastion. A major difference is that U.S schools have activities like proms and bonfires, while Indian schools do not. There are a lot of differences between U.S and Indian high Schools.

Life Starts Now, A Music Review By Nick Wadleigh

Recently, the new Three Days grace CD, Life starts now, was released and so far I’ve heard mixed opinions on it. Personally, I’ve always been a TDG fan, and their new album definitely supports that. They kept their original sound and even added in a few solos. The name, Life starts Now, refers to recent events that happened to more than one of the band members. Drummer Neil Sanderson said, “Things have been fairly traumatic for more then one of us. We’ve all had to confront death on different levels, we’ve had family go through health problems, so life starts now definitely reflects that feeling of redefining what life is.” The most commonly known song from their new album is, Break, and as Adam Gontier said, it’s about breaking away from your environment and breaking away from being told what to do and living the life you want to live. It’s a great song and the first song I heard off their new album. Three Days Grace’s new album lives up to the expectations.

A View Into High School Fashion By Kenzie Ramos

American Eagle, people who wear AE fashion are very loyal to the brand and wear it all the time. AE offers clothes for men, women, and children. The clothing generally has a comfortable fit. People put trust into the label, because it’s well respected and has earned its place in the fashion industry through proving that it offers only the best to its well dressed customers. Each piece is designed with an exact purpose. The purpose is to provide every customer with the best fashion and durable clothing. Yes, it can get expensive but most people find it affordable. Their sportswear will take a beating and still look great.

Hollister is much like Abercrombie & Fitch, logically because they are owned by the same company. They play loud music in their stores and also spray their clothes with cologne! Hollister, however, is directed toward a slightly younger age group with an edgier style. Hollister’s target market is high school aged kids and their style is more of a surfer style. Hollister is the city in California where the store got its name. The prices at Hollister are slightly less expensive than A&F.

One last store that joins these ranks is Aeropostale who has casual current apparel targeting 14 to 18 year olds. Aero has very good prices and great value. Their best items are polo’s, hoodies, graphic tees, jewelry, and shoes.

All of these stores offer on-line shopping which is great for Upper Valley consumers!

Are Video Games Ruining Our Youth? By K. Ragdon

Children have always been more interested in play than work. Kids throughout history
have loved to run outside and ignore their responsibilities. Usually, parents have sighed and cleaned up after them, knowing the kids are enjoying themselves and building social skills. However, in recent years a new form of entertainment has taken hold: Video games. These innocuous-seeming games slowly corrupt youth, destroy their social skills, and ruin their future.

Many gamers begin as happy, normal children who decide to try games because “All my friends do it!” or “Just one won’t hurt.” When this happens (or even before then) sit down with your kids and tell them why gaming is wrong and will ruin their lives. Make sure they understand that if their friends are trying it, they need to get new friends. If they think once won’t hurt, teach them that it will. Far too many kids end up chair-bound couch potatos after trying one of the many games like “Halo” or, god forbid, “World Of Warcraft”.

You may notice that, if your son or daughter starts games, they rarely leave their room, their friends stop coming over, and they never go to see friends anymore, saying they prefer the new friends they are making online. At this point, it is not too late for your child-simply cut off all game access and make them go outside, reconnect them with old friends, and make them join a group such as the Scouts. If you don’t, they will never succeed socially, and they may even lose all but the most basic English, preferring to talk in the despicable internet-speak which has become popular in recent years.

The worst part of games, however, is their effect on your child’s future. A happy young boy, with a B average and a steady job, may in less than a month, both lose that job and see their B’s turn to C’s or D’s. Again, it is still not too late to save your child. All you need to do is get those games out, and keep them out! Otherwise, that boy will end up a janitor at Mcdonald’s or a garbage-collector for minimum wage.

After these chilling lessons, almost any parent can see that letting your son even try games is a recipe for disaster, or worse. Don’t listen to the lies of those who would have you believe that games are safe, even if limited- the only way is complete removal of all games and gaming-related objects from your child’s life. Some freakish few may claim to have gaming “under control”. Do you really believe them? Most of those are introverted, lonely people, and those few who are not have deep, hidden problems from sitting around shooting imaginary people all day. So please, don’t let your kids play games, and if they do, get rid of those games NOW!

Modern Warfare II A Look Ahead By Cornelius Plomp

One of the most hotly anticipated games of 2009, Modern Warfare 2, which launches on November 10, is the sequel to the extremely popular Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, which won numerous awards. With amazing graphics, sounds, gameplay, multiplayer, and story, Modern Warfare 2 looks to be least as good as the original, if not better.

The graphics engine is almost the same as the first game, as is the sound, so those are expected to once again be top-notch, and the previews so far have not disappointed. The story is still (partly) secret, but most people are confident it will be as good as the prequel.

The biggest change will be to the multiplayer, with the producer removing the dedicated servers (a way to easily play online for free, at the risk of cheaters and bots), and many new rewards and options, such as using a Riot Shield to soak up bullets, or calling in a Care Package (which contains things such as health packs and ammo).

All in all, Modern Warfare looks to be another great game, and definitely worth picking up this holiday season.

Grand Theft Auto By Musawar Ahmad

When making “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”, Rockstar was given the almost impossible task of trying to improve two of the best games ever – “GTA3 and GTA Vice City”. The company decided to go with a new theme for the game, which is set in the early 1990s and in a state in America where gangs rule the streets, and where you play a black gangster who is part of the Grove Street crew. The game is set in an imaginary West-Coast state with three large cities. These cities are based on Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas. This game’s mission starts with Carl Johnson coming back for his mom’s funeral, only to meet up with his brothers, before getting sucked back into the gang culture. Carl decides to help them out.

A Failed Flight By Alek Damiani

On October 30th a mother and her infant son were kicked off an airplane heading home to San Jose from Texas. Her son kept screaming, “Bye plane,” and “I want Daddy.” The mother and her son were kicked off after a peevish flight attendance was refused a request for the infant to be medicated to calm down. The mother said she was sure the screaming would subside after the plane took off.

A news station said that they thought it was unusual for them to kick and infant off a plane but it is their prerogative. People are asking questions now like, was she given a few minutes to assuage her sons’ behavior? And, was he really causing a major issue? The situation hasn’t been looked into very much and it is upsetting to some people. Many people have been given the option to post comments on most sights that have information on the incident and it seems to be split between people who feel like it is unfair and people who support the airline.

Healthy Baking by Ian Saunders

Healthy eating habits have become a high priority for people in the recent years. From eating the new 100 calorie prepackaged pouches, to lowering their fat intakes and watching calories. Sweets have also been cut out of people’s diets, due to high sugar contents and fats. Luckily there is a new way to baking which can save your sweet tooth and your diet.
When baking at home people don’t usually stop and think about what they are putting in that mixing bowls (the sugar, flours, and oils). These ingredients are what turn the product from healthy, to not so healthy after all. Muffins in particular, are one baked good that is consumed a lot but does really have a lot of nutritional value do to the way it was made. Thanks to food scientist there are new and improved ways to make baking healthy and delicious.

Muffins consisted of flour sugar some flavoring and usually egg. There are some ways to turn that muffin into a healthier baked good. One ingredient you can use is Spenda. This sugar supplement is actually healthier then actually sugar because it is a chlorinated artificial sweetener. Another thing you can do to your baking is include prebiotic fiber. This is another supplement that is healthier then actually fiber because it is lighter and makes the muffins fat content low. Low fat ingredients also help when baking. This reduces the fat content over all in the muffin thus making it healthier.

Now that you know these healthier tips try this recipe for a healthier fall muffin!
